Street light and traffic light information

Report a traffic light fault

Use our report a traffic light fault form.

Temporary traffic lights

Temporary traffic lights can be used if a utility company is carrying out roadworks. They will have an information board on display in case you want to find out more details.

If there are temporary traffic lights with no information board use our report a traffic light fault form to tell us.

Traffic light timings

Contact us if you're unhappy with the timings of traffic lights. We'll investigate and determine whether changes to the timings would be beneficial.

Request a change to street lights

You can make the following requests for changing street lights:

  • Request new street lights
  • Request to shade a street light that shines into your house - we can usually do this for free by painting the lantern but other modification may have a fee
  • Request to move a street light - e.g. if you're planning to alter your driveway - there will be a fee for this

Contact us to request a change to street lights.

About the scheme

Part-night lighting was approved after a successful trial and consultation in 2009 - 2010. We now turn off street lights between about 12 midnight and 5.30am in appropriate locations to save money. To find out more read our part night lighting frequently asked questions (PDF document).

Streets with part-night lighting

To see locations with part night lighting read our streets with part night lighting page.

Although the consultation has finished we welcome your feedback. To give us feedback about part night lighting email streetlighting@wokingham.gov.uk

About the project

We are replacing 8,000 of our ageing columns that are approaching the end of useful lives and installing more than 13,000 LED lanterns, across our borough.

This includes street lights on major roads, in residential areas, in parks and open spaces, property and car park lighting. It also includes some owned by town and parish councils.

The new LED lanterns will provide white light, with a neutral colour temperature, compared to older yellow light lanterns

Why are we upgrading the street lights?

We are upgrading street lights in order to

  • Update and modernise ageing lights and columns
  • Improving vision at night by installing white lights
  • Reduce carbon footprint with more eco-friendly lighting
  • Reduce energy costs by at least 60 percent per lighting unit
  • Increase options for further energy and cost reductions by introducing dimming and part-night lighting where appropriate
  • Reduce maintenance costs
