Supplementary Planning Guidance

What is Supplementary Planning Guidance?

Supplementary Planning Guidance documents or 'SPGs' provide additional information to support policies contained in the Wokingham District Local Plan (WDLP). They do not form part of a development plan for an area but they do influence planning decisions such as the determination of planning applications. SPGs do not undergo independent examination by a Planning Inspector like a Local Plan, but are subject to public consultation.

SPDs will soon replace SPGs

In 2004 as part of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act, the government has replaced the old system of creating a Local Plan with a new system called 'Local Development Frameworks' (LDFs). This has changed the way in which planning policies are written, prepared and presented. Unfortunately this also means our exisiting SPGs will become out of date.

In response to this, the Council have started to update or replace its Supplementary Planning Guidance by adopting them as 'Supplementary Planning Documents' (SPDs) under the new LDF system. SPDs will undergo to a Sustainability Appraisal and a round of public consultation before they can become part of the Wokingham Borough LDF. After adoption these documents will have the same influence on planning decisions as SPGs used to under the old planning system.

Which SPGs have been replaced, withdrawn or updated?

For details of which SPGs have been withdrawn or replaced/updated in line with the new Wokingham Borough Local Development Framework, see the list below. Those SPGs that are still in use are available by clicking the links to them on the left handside menu.
