Planning for Retail and Town Centres in the Borough

Planning for shops and services

The shops and services within the Wokingham borough provide an essential service to our residents. They cater for every day needs, provide jobs and help to keep the local economy buoyant. Towns and smaller local centres also have the opportunity to provide a safe environment for people to meet, socialise, and spend their leisure time. The function and viability of these centres rely on the successful management of the types of shops and services that are located there. Planning helps manage what goes where to ensure that local needs are met.

The Borough Retail Study

To help us plan for town and village centres, our 'Borough retail study' has been drawn up. This looks at the scope for new retail provision in the Wokingham Borough and focuses on the centres of Wokingham, Woodley, Twyford and Earley.
