Saved Policies

What are Saved Policies?

In 2004 the government introduced a new planning system called 'Local Development Frameworks' (LDF) as part of the Planning and Compulsory purchase act. This has meant a different approach to preparing, writing and presenting planning policies. As part of this change, under Schedule 8 of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act, we have had to review the policies in our Wokingham District Local Plan and ask the Secretary of State for some of these to be saved in the interim of adopting our Local Development Framework.

Saving policies in the Local Plan

The Secretary of State granted permission to save some Local Plan policies on 25th September 2007. Saved policies have to be policies specific to local planning issues and must not repeat national or regional guidance. Attached at the bottom of this page is a document called 'Guidance on Saved Local Plan Policies' which lists the saved policies in the Local Plan, whilst the document 'Reasoning for Saved Policies' also lists those that were rejected and why.

Saving Regional Policies

At the meeting of the Executive on 28 November 2007 the Council considered which policies of the Berkshire Structure Plan it would suggest should be saved beyond 15 July 2008. The table detailing the reasons for its suggestions is attached. The Council received the response of the Secretary of State on 26 June 2008. Details of the policies saved and those that have been rejected are available in the document titled 'Reasons for suggesting Structure Plan policies are saved' below.
