Statement of Community Involvement

What is a Statement of Community Involvement?

All Local Planning Authorities are required to produce a Statement of Community Involvement (SCI). The SCI is linked to our Community Strategy and sets out:

  • How the Council will consult the local community on the preparation of planning policies and documents; and

  • a commitment to consult the public on all planning applications.

Adoption of our Statement of Community Involvement

Following various stages of public consultation outlined in the 'preparation of the SCI', and an independent examination by the Secretary of State, the Council adopted its Statement of Community Involvement on 1 December 2006.

Addendum to our Statement of Community Involvement June 2011

On the 2 June 2011, the Council's Executive agreed an update to the adopted Statement of Community Involvement.

The update was required to take account of amendments in legislation, which have changed the statutory consultation requirements that must be undertaken in conjunction with the preparation of Development Plan Documents.
