Wokingham Town Centre

At the Council, we are treating the redevelopment the Town Centre as a top priority. We want to create the right kind of town for local residents, workers and visitors. In order to achieve this, we are working closely with members of the public to create a clear vision for the future of Wokingham.

To make sure the right decisions are made in the future we are using our roles as both a Planning Authority and as a major landowner in the Town Centre.

As the Planning Authority we have worked with local people to create the Wokingham Town Centre Masterplan. This was adopted on 24 June 2010.  

The Wokingham Town Centre Public Realm Workshop took place on 15 June 2011. This workshop was undertaken by the Local Planning Authority, based on the parameters set out in the Wokingham Town Centre Masterplan SPD, adopted June 2010. The workshop considered the Town Centre’s key public spaces alongside broader streetscape issues to ensure a consistent approach and facilitate a high quality network of streets and spaces.

The feedback report, as prepared by facilitators Allies and Morrison Urban Practitioners, summarises the feedback from the event and identifies common themes and conclusions. Its contents will be material in the determination of planning applications within the Town Centre as they come forward.

We own several areas of land in the Town Centre and we are using several of these, along with some privately owned sites, to help regenerate the town. We are currently working with three carefully selected developers to create a scheme that meets the local vision for the Town Centre.
