Contact the Duty Planner

Please note:

Due to staff shortages we will be reducing the availability of the Duty Officer as follows:

  • 10am to 3pm Monday to Friday. These changes will start from Tuesday 31 May 2011.

What the Duty Planner can help with

The duty officer will be able to give informal advice on planning matters without prejudice. These may include:

  • General advice on planning for your home (e.g. do you need planning? What are the guidelines for proposed extensions)
  • Loss of light
  • Overlooking and issues of 'overbearing'
  • Advice on outdoor advertisements
  • Fences
  • What you can build in the Green Belt or Countryside

What the Duty Planner can't do

The Duty Officer won't be able to carry out a site visit and can not give advice on specific planning matters such as:

  • Planning applications for large developments
  • Individual householder proposals
  • Planning for phone masts or employment sites
  • Minerals and Waste
  • Site specific information such as Highways and protected trees
  • Site specific planning history

Getting written advice

The duty planner will not be able to offer advice in writing. We are able to respond to a general query sent in by e-mail within 10 days.

Unfortunately we are unable to offer written advice for smaller household applications such as extensions.

For more detailed advice on a large planning applications (e.g. a replacement dwelling or large residential development) you should use our free ‘Pre-Application’ service.
