Finding out what people think about the planning policies we write is very important that we write a Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) which sets out all of the different methods used to consult you on various issues. Below are some of the areas of planning you will typically be asked to give your opinion on:

Local Plans

These policies deal with planning issues on a large scale. As a result they have three stages of consultation:

Initial Options: Where the public are asked what they consider to be the most important issues.

Preferred Options: Where you are presented with a range of different scenarios and asked to comment on the advantages and disadvantages of them.

Submission Consultation: This is where we have written the final draft of the document. By this stage all necessary changes should have been made, taking into account the public's views. At this stage only comments regarding the ‘soundness’ of a document can be made. Soundness is defined in paragraph 182 of the National Planning Policy Framework (PDF document).

Supplementary Planning Documents

These policies support the bigger Local Plans by providing extra guidance on specific issues e.g. improving Wokingham Town Centre. Supplementary Planning Documents have one round of consultation lasting 6 weeks. Find out more on our Supplementary Planning Documents page.
