Before you submit a planning application check if you need permission.

How to apply

The easiest way to submit an application is online via the Planning Portal:

You can complete the application form, attach supporting documents and pay fees all online. You can also use the Planning Portal to print the application forms through the paper form chooser if required. You will need to purchase OS maps from the Portal as we will no longer offer this service from June 2018. 

Planning desk open 10am to 3pm

If you need to visit the department, the planning reception desk is open from 10am to 3pm.


Planning applications have to be accompanied by a fee and this is set by the Government. The fees were last raised on 17 January 2018. For more information about fees visit the Planning Portal website's fee page.  When submitting an application you can pay through the Planning Portal or on our payments page.

What supporting information is needed
