Woodley

This parish lies between the main Reading-Paddington railway line in the north and the A329(M) road in the south. Throughout most of its length Woodley’s eastern boundary follows the River Loddon.

Woodley town centre

Woodley has a thriving, modern shopping centre at Crockhamwell Road, which is enhanced by Woodley Town Centre Management Initiative projects. A local Farmers’ Market is held in the centre on the third Wednesday of every month.  The centre, which is pedestrianised, has a wide variety of shops and businesses, ranging from larger nationwide stores to small, family-run shops, many of which trade from 10am to 4pm on Sundays. Ample car parking is available.

Shopping is made easier for disabled people with disabled parking right in the middle of the centre, and the majority of the shops have level access.

Sports and leisure

A variety of interests are catered for within the community and Woodley Town Council provides a wide range of sports and leisure facilities to suit all the family at Woodford Park and Bulmershe Leisure Centres, from a swimming pool and children’s holiday clubs to a county standard bowling green.

The town features a number of parks and children’s play areas and there is pedestrian access to the Borough Council’s Dinton Pastures Country Park across the River Loddon.

A number of smaller industries remain, but Woodley’s former aerodrome has largely been developed for housing, with a local centre, primary school and recreational areas. The town’s aviation history is preserved at the Museum of Berkshire Aviation, which has been established at nearby Sandford Copse.
