How is conservation performance measured?

National Indicator 197 (NI 197) measures the performance of local authorities at protecting and improving their local biodiversity. Local Sites are selected for their significant nature conservation value (local wildlife sites) or their significant geological value (local geological sites). Sites are designated by the Local Sites Partnership in accordance with criteria published by Department for Environment, Food and Rural affairs (DEFRA). The current National Indicator 197 monitoring report for the Borough can be viewed below.
