Please note that the Council is not responsible for making safe privately owned trees. For emergencies relating to privately owned trees, contact a local tree contractor.

The Council's policy is to only undertake work to trees on public land to in order to maintain public safety or the health of the tree. • Emergency requests i.e. dangerous or fallen trees deemed to be a hazard will be dealt with on the same day as reported, or next working day if reported out of normal business hours.
  • Less urgent requests where an site visit and tree inspection/survey is required will be dealt within 20 working days.

Tree pruning

We are unable to prune and/or remove trees unless they are causing a danger to pedestrians or vehicles. Landowners have the Common Law right to prune back any part of a tree which overhangs their property. It is the landowner’s responsibility to ensure that a tree is not protected in any way before carrying out any works.
