What can I pay for online?
Our online payment service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and uses the highest standards of encryption to ensure it is safe and secure to use. Find out what else you can do online.
Please note that from 1st April 2010 there will be a 1.5% charge made for using your credit card.
You can pay for the following online using your debit or credit card:
- Business Rates
- Council Tax
- Housing or garage rent
- Invoices for sundry debtors
- Benefit Overpayment Invoices
- Planning applications
Please note that the online payments system will be unavailable between 4pm and 4.45pm each day, for processing of payments.
Guidance notes
We accept Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, Delta, Electron and Solo cards. Payment requests using this system are subject to authorisation and clearance timescales. Normal credit and debit card clearance cycles apply and it should never take more than 24 hours for your payment to be received and posted to us. Please note that from 1st April 2010 there will be a 1.5% charge made for using your credit card.
Making payments
To use our online payment service please have to hand the debit or credit card you intend to use and the account reference number for the bill that you wish to pay. Please note that from 1st April 2010 there will be a 1.5% charge made for using your credit card.
Your account number can be found:
- On your last bill for Council Tax and Business Rates
- Your last increase letter or Payment Card for rents
- Your invoice for sundry debtors

Automated telephone payments
You can also use our automated telephone payments system to pay for the same services by calling 0845 303 9485. You will be asked a series of questions designed to give us the information that we require so that we can identify and credit your payment without delay. To use this service you will also need to have to hand the debit or credit card you intend to use and the account reference number for the bill that you wish to pay. Please note that from 1st April 2010 there will be a 1.5% charge made for using your credit card.
This system is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week although it may be closed for short periods to enable essential maintenance.
