Details of consultation
Our transport system is under increasing pressure, with more and more people trying to get around the borough and the need for regular highways maintenance increasing.
To help cope with the demand from an increasing population, the borough is undergoing road building on a level unseen for many years. Five major new roads are either being built already or are currently being planned and scores of other highways improvements are taking place or are in the pipeline.
We are also investing in highways maintenance (fixing potholes, etc) and in options to help people get out of their cars.
We understand that road works and congestion cause problems and frustration for all of us trying to get around the borough. We are keen to hear about people’s experiences and priorities in order to plan for the future.
The consultation will help us make decisions but it is important to be clear that it is not a referendum. We will use the results and tell you how we have used them, but there are no magical solutions to congestion nor an unlimited amount of money to resolve problems.
You can take part in our consultation online by clicking on the link below or by completing a paper copy of the survey, available at various locations around the borough.
Following the close of the consultation, we will publish all responses online (with personal information removed), along with a summary report. The findings will also be reported to Wokingham Borough Council’s Executive Committee.
The findings will be used to:
•Provide a baseline of the public’s opinion on how we communicate on transport and highways issues that will be used to judge the success or failure of future communications initiatives
•Guide improvements in specific areas such as our website and how we encourage people to reduce car dependence
•Inform decisions on where we plan highways work (although this will be only one element of these decisions)
