Wokingham Borough Council invites you to comment on its new SuDS Strategy during this 8 week public consultation, ending on Friday 16 September.

This strategy sets out the long term vision for the use of Sustainable Drainage Systems in the Borough with a focus on managing flood risk and improving the water environment. It is designed to be used by developers when master planning all major developments and for planners when assessing planning applications.

The strategy provides advice to help mitigate flood risk, water quality and biodiversity concerns in the wider catchment.

A technical guide is also included which establishes the requirements of planning applications in light of Wokingham Borough Council’s statutory responsibility as Lead Local Flood Authority to comment on major developments with drainage.

Together, the Strategy and Appendix include advice to developers ensuring SuDS systems are provided that can be maintained in perpetuity with minimal costs, and appropriate maintenance regimes, enforced through the planning system.

Cllr Angus Ross, Executive Member for Environment said "I am very supportive of Wokingham Borough Council's initiative in providing this advice and technical detail both for respective developers but also the borough's Planning Officers.  I urge all those involved to study and comment on the draft documents so we can then make any amendments and then adopt a robust and effective strategy to minimise drainage issues in new developments and provide for good maintenance of sustainable drainage systems once built."
