Local Plan Update – Re-opening of the Call for Sites

Details of consultation

Why are we re-opening the Call for Sites?

We are currently undertaking an update of our Local Plan. Local Plans set out how an area will develop over time to guide future development. Part of the Local Plan Update is to identify and allocate sufficient land for housing, employment and other uses up to 2036.

The first stage in the update was the undertaking of a Call for Sites, which took place between 11 January and 5 February 2016. Due to popular demand, the Council has decided to re-open the Call for Sites to provide as many people as possible with the opportunity to submit a site for potential development.

Please note: If you have already submitted a site in the initial Call for Sites in January/February 2016, you don’t need to re-submit an online survey form.

What is a 'Call for Sites'?

A Call for Sites is a consultation in which the Council invites different people including landowners, developers and the public to submit details about land for the Council to then consider whether, through the Local Plan process, it should be allocated for different types of development, such as for housing or for employment.

Who can submit a site?

Anyone can submit a site for consideration on the condition that contact details are included. Anonymous proposals will not be accepted. Sites need not necessarily be in your ownership.

Is there a minimum size of site that the Council is looking to allocate?

Sites should be capable of delivering 5 or more dwellings or 500 square metres of commercial or other non-residential floor space.

How do I submit a site?

Use our online Call for Sites feedback form to submit a site.

You will need to complete and submit the form online. Each site should be completed on a separate form. A guidance document (PDF document) is also available for download to help complete you the form.

The Call for Sites runs from Monday 9 May until 5pm on Monday 6 June 2016.

Due to the scale and detailed nature of this consultation as well as ensuring that increasingly limited and reducing public funds are spent responsibly, the Council is unable to accept paper or electronic copies of the form. The form must be completed and submitted online.

Please note: If you have already submitted a site in the initial Call for Sites in January/February 2016, you don’t need to re-submit an online survey form.

What happens after I’ve submitted a site?

The sites will be carefully assessed through the Local Plan process to see whether they are appropriate for development.

Please note that suggesting a site does not guarantee that it will be included within the Local Plan Update as a site for development.

Preferred sites will be proposed in the Local Plan Update Proposed Submission document, which is expected to be published in early 2017.

Sites will be confirmed when the Local Plan Update is adopted, which is expected to be in March 2018, after it has gone through an examination.
