What is the Local Council Tax Reduction Scheme?
Since 1 April 2013, local authorities in England have been responsible for running their own local schemes to help people pay their Council Tax. The Local Council Tax Reduction Scheme helps working age people on low incomes with paying their council tax, by reducing the amount they have to pay. The amount of Local Council Tax Reduction is based on individual personal circumstances of the claimant and anyone else living in their household. Currently, in Wokingham Borough up to 100 percent of Council Tax can be covered by Council Tax Reduction.
Who do we need to hear from?
We need to hear from individuals who live in the Borough and organisations that operate in the Borough.
Why are we asking you for this information?
We have to balance how much we spend on the scheme against how much we spend on other services. So we have decided to review our Local Council Tax Reduction Scheme. We are asking for your views on our proposals for our new Council Tax Reduction Scheme which will operate from April 2016 onwards. Any changes to the scheme will only affect working age households receiving Council Tax Reduction now or in the future and will not affect pensioners.
What will we do with the information?
Any information provided will be anonymised so that you cannot be identified. The information will be analysed and a report presented to the Council's Executive committee.
