If you are unhappy with a decision made about an Education, Health and Care Plan, the Special Educational Needs (SEN) team will be willing to meet with you to discuss your concerns.

The Special Educational Needs and Disability Information Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS)

This used to be known as the Parent Partnership. They provide confidential, impartial advice and guidance to:

  • Parents of children with additional needs
  • Young people up to the age of 25 with additional needs

They're the best place to start if you're unhappy with a decision. They can: 

  • Help resolve disagreements 
  • Explain how mediation works
  • Explain your right of appeal through the tribunal system

Mediation services

When we make our decision about an Education Health and Care Plan we'll send you a letter. It will explain how to contact a mediation service in case you disagree with our decision.

Mediation is free and brings together the parents or young person, and us (the Council) to work towards a solution which both are satisfied with. 

Before you appeal to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal you must have tried mediation.
