If you are homebound or have a disability and are unable to visit your nearest library, we may be able to help with the home library service.
What is the Home Library Service?
We provide a home delivery and collection service for books, including large print and spoken word cassettes and CDs to qualifying residents, subject to availability. A trained volunteer will deliver books to match your reading tastes to your home or day centre, at a mutually agreed time, once every three weeks.
Who is eligible?
This special library service is provided free of charge to residents who are permanently or temporarily disabled, infirm or frail, resulting in them being unable to access and use any of our local libraries. The capacity of the service is limited but every application is considered and every effort is made to assist.
How do I apply?
To apply you need to complete a Home Library Service application form and get the referral section signed by your doctor or health visitor. Then send your completed application to Wokingham Library. Application forms are available in all local libraries or by phoning Wokingham Library on 0118 978 1368.
Who delivers the service?
All our library volunteers are fully screened and trained before they begin library visits and the service is managed and overseen by professional staff. We are always recruiting more volunteers to help with the service. If you would like to find out about becoming a Home Library Service volunteer please ask for a leaflet about volunteering at your local library.
