What are the Local Safeguarding Children Boards?
The Local Safeguarding Children Boards - LSCBs - is an important element of the improved safeguards for children put in place by the Children Act 2004. The LSCB and its activities are part of the wider context of children's trust arrangements. Each local authority is required to have a LSCB in place.
The LSCB is the key statutory mechanism for agreeing how the relevant organisations in each local area will co-operate to safeguard and promote the welfare of children in that locality, and for ensuring the effectiveness of what they do.
The roles and responsibilities of the LSCB are set out in the Working Together to Safeguard Children 2006.
