Residential care services provided by us
There are 2 Wokingham Borough Council residential homes in the Borough:
Staff are on hand 24 hours a day to give residents assistance when needed. All residents can have single rooms which can be locked. The rooms can be personalised with possessions and belongings which are important to the individual resident.
Private and voluntary care
We arrange and pay for additional places from residential and nursing home providers. Each home will have unique features to offer, and provide similar accommodation to the homes directly owned by us.
You will receive the same service standards whoever provides the accommodation and these standards are monitored through our contracting arrangements.
We will ensure that all residential and nursing home services:
- Comply with National Care Standards
- Take care to provide for the personal, social, religious and cultural needs of every resident
- Ensure that every resident will have a written copy of a care plan, which tells them what services to expect, how they will be delivered, and when the care plan will be reviewed with them
- Enable residents to maintain their interests, hobbies and community links
- Monitor the quality of services provided to individual residents by regularly asking for their views, and by implementing the recommendations arising from the external inspections of the home in which they live
- Staff will have been trained in providing personal care and safe moving and handling
- All premises will meet health and safety standards and regular external inspections
- Residents have information about how to complain, and how they can access any records which are kept about them

The Care Quality Commission is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. Their aim is to make sure better care is provided for everyone, whether that’s in hospital, in care homes, in people’s own homes, or elsewhere. They regulate health and adult social care services, whether provided by the NHS, local authorities, private companies or voluntary organisations. And, we protect the rights of people detained under the Mental Health Act.
