What am I paying a Service Charge for?

The Service Charge covers caretaker / cleaning, building repairs, grounds maintenance, communal (shared areas) lighting, communal aerial, fire alarm system, security access system and management fee.

Why do I pay for electricity when already pay for my own?

The electricity you pay for in your Service Charge is for communal lighting.

Can I pay by direct debit?

Yes - phone 0118 974 6000 to request a direct debit form.

When should I receive my statement / invoice?

Your statement will be sent by the 30th September each year.  Your invoice will be sent in March for the following financial year.

Who is responsible for the loft space?

We - the Council - are responsible for loft space.

Why do I pay for building repairs when no building work has been carried out in some time?

The building repairs which are included in your Service Charge are an estimate. If no building works are carried out during the year then these will be refunded.

How do I sell my property?

Put the property on the market and instruct your Solicitor. Please ensure that the details for the new Leaseholder are sent to us at completion stage of the sale.

Will the Council buy back my house?

No - we do not buy back properties we have sold under the Tenants Right to Buy.
