Acorn Community Centre has been developed as part of our aim to modernise services for people with learning disabilities and to ensure they are part of the community. The new building has a sensory room, art room with kiln, IT suite and various others rooms for meetings and activities. The Centre also houses the Rainbow Cafe'.
The centre replaces the Wokingham Resource and Opportunity Centre. The Centre will allow improvment to the services it offers. WROC - Wokingham Resource and Opportunity Centre - members were consulted on the design and how the Centre should be equipped.
The Rainbow cafe
The cafe is open from 10am to 2pm Monday to Friday, serving coffee, teas and snacks as well as light lunches. The cafe is a place for local people to meet over a coffee and it provides our service users with opportunities to acquire cafe and catering skills.
New project
2 new greenhouses have been built at the front of the Acorn Centre and as soon as the weather picks up there will be a wide range of plants available for sale. This will provide service users with opportunities for training in selling and care of plants. We are grateful to Boehringer Ingelheim Ltd of Bracknell who have supplied the manpower to build the greenhouses through their 'community spirit' programme.
