Access to council buildings open to the public

Capital fund budgets are allocated each year for improvments to access in any council building that is open to the public. This is to ensure physical access into the buildings is inclusive to all, including those with impairments, and also to comply with the Disability Discrimination Act. Work is still ongoing, although the majority of the buildings are now considered to be accessible.

The access guide to council buildings open to the public lists our buildings open to the public including:

  • Council offices

  • Libraries

  • Youth and community centres

  • Countryside services

  • Public conveniences

  • Sport and leisure facilities

  • Day centres

  • Community houses

The guide shows, in symbol form, what is available in each venue , and we actively encourage members of the public who use our buildings to give their views and offer input as to how these buildings are accessed and managed.

For any further information on council owned buildings or to report a particular access issue contact the Access Officer.
