Berkshire Accessibility By Design - A Standard Guide

Disabled people have often been denied access to facilities and services that non-disabled people take for granted. The way buildings are designed often has a huge impact on disabled people, elderly people and parents with children. Their access needs should always be incorporated into how we shape our environment.

The Berkshire Accessibility By Design Guide has been produced by the Councils listed below to help those who are planning, designing and implementing new or refurbished buildings, both residential and commercial.

  • Wokingham Borough Council

  • West Berkshire Council

  • The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead Council

  • Reading Borough Council

  • Slough Borough Council

  • Bracknell Forest Borough Council

It gives detail of the standards of accessibility now incorporated into current Building Regulations specifications ( Approved Document M ) and in British Standard BS8300.  Building Control Surveyors ensure compliance with these regulations, thereby helping to bring a fully inclusive, fully accessible environment  a step closer to reality.

Amendments to this document are being planned for Spring 2010.

If you would like a hard copy of this publication please contact the Councils Access Officer.

or supply details of to whom and where to send, on the Access online feedback form.
