Targeted Mental Health in Schools (TaMHS)

The Targeted Mental Health in Schools (TaMHS) project aims to improve mental and emotional health in children and young people, focussing on both staff training, and interventions with pupils.

About the project

TaMHS Phase 1 was a national project, funded by Department for Education (DfE), which was introduced to 11 Wokingham schools between 2010 and 2011. We are now funding Phase 2 to provide a roll out from the original 11 schools to all schools in Wokingham. Phase 2 has been designed, based on the evaluation of Phase 1 of the project. This will involve offering most of the strands from Phase 1 to all schools in Wokingham in 2011 to 2012. Details of these strands are in the TaMHS newsletters, below. Training of staff is also available.

Aims of the project

The 4 aims of Phase 2 of the TaMHS project are:

1. To develop and extend whole school approaches to improve emotional health and wellbeing for the whole school community

2. To develop systems for the early identification of groups, and individual children and young people who have precursors that may lead to emotional distress and potential mental health problems

3. To develop and deliver a range of evidence based interventions for these identified children and their families; and

4. To sustain TaMHS interventions and courses with charging infrastructures linked to the Children’s Services Traded Services model of working.
