Out of school care consists of breakfast clubs, lunch clubs and after school clubs that run outside of normal school hours.
Most children attending out-of-school services are aged between 5 and 11 years. Some services provide places for 3 and 4 year olds to fit around nursery or pre-school education. Some services provide places geared for older children aged 10 to 16 years.
What do 'out of school clubs' offer?
Out of school clubs can be:
- Breakfast clubs open in the mornings before school and can provide the breakfast meal
- Lunch clubs extend sessional care or can provide childcare inbetween morning and afternoon early education sessions
- After school clubs open in the afternoons usually between about 3.30pm and 6pm
