A Playworker is someone who:
- Can understand and identify when a child needs their support
- Is able to assist children in making their ideas come true
- Is able to provide endless opportunities
- Is able to release control allowing the child to learn through their experiences
- Has the energy to keep up with a child enthusiasm and demands
- Has the child’s best interests in mind
- Is able to come out of their comfort zone to enable the child to try new experiences
Why become a Playworker?
Becoming a Playworker enables you to make a significant contribution to a child’s development, help them to be independent, learn about life, developing social skills and make friends. Supporting them to gain skills that will enable to meet future challenges in life.
How do I become a Playworker?
Simply contact the childcare and play team. Opportunities exist during term time as a:
- Volunteer in school during playtime
- Volunteer at Breakfast and Afterschool clubs
- Paid employment at after school clubs
And during the school holidays as a:
- Volunteer at one of the Boroughs Open and Closed access playscheme
- Volunteer at one of the other playschems within the Borough
- Paid employment at one of the Boroughs Open and Closed access playscheme
- Paid employment at one of the other holiday playschemes within the Borough
Try before you commit
The best advice is to volunteer at a setting to ensure it is the type of work for you before embarking on part or full time employment.
