Support for agency adopters

Wokingham Borough Council is committed to providing broad ranging support services to adoptive families who live in the Wokingham area after the Adoption Order is granted. The Authority recognises that the nature of support that different families need will vary depending on many factors and the Authority will, where possible, try to tailor the support available to fit the need.

The Authority works in cooperation with:

  • Placing Authorities
  • The Berkshire Adoption Advisory Service
  • Local and National Organisations offering Adoption Support services
  • The local CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health)Service

... in order that a wide range of supports can be made available to adopted children and their adoptive parents.

Supports available from the Local Authority include:

  • Individual support from a dedicated Placement Support Worker
  • Support from a Social Worker in one of our Fieldwork Teams (when the adopted child is deemed to be a Child in Need)
  • Adoption Support Groups
  • 2 x Annual Social Events for Adoptive Families
  • The Berkshire Adoption Consortium Consultation Service
