ASSIST is also known as Home/School Liaison ASC - Autistic Spectrum Condition.
The Team
The ASSIST Team provides support for:
- Children and young people under 18 years-old, with a diagnosis of Autism, and living in the Wokingham Borough
- Families and carers living with a child or young person with Autism
- Professionals working with a child or young person with Autism
Team members have wide experience of Autistic Spectrum Conditions, and are able to support individuals and settings in many different ways.
Support Provided
Support available includes:
- Resources to help children interact more independently with their environment - symbols, photographs, timetables etc.
- Individual or small team working with a child or young person on specific goals and targets
- Working alongside parents, siblings and carers to look at issues in the home environment and move towards solutions
- Working alongside school staff to look at issues in the school environment and move towards solutions
- Providing consultation support to professionals to look at issues and solutions
- Working with leisure activity providers to enable them to support children with Autism as independently as possible
- Providing Autism Awareness Workshops
- Co-ordination of the National Autistic Society EarlyBird and EarlyBird Plus parent programmes
