Review of Settlement Boundaries

The Part 2 Local Plan Inspector - paragraph 1.42 - recommended that before the council starts work on reviewing the Wokingham District Local Plan 2004 - WDLP, it should undertake a thorough review of all settlement boundaries. This was because he was very concerned that the council had not undertaken a rigorous reassessment of the boundaries in line with the advice in PPG7 - paragraph 4.16. Instead, the Council had primarily carried the boundaries over from the earlier local plans.

The Executive on 4 December 2002 endorsed the recommendation of the Inspector. Therefore, before the Council can undertake significant work on the review of the WDLP, it needs to undertake a review of the settlement boundaries.

Before proceeding with the review of the settlement boundaries, the Council from 20 September to 10 December 2004 consulted upon a draft approach. The draft approach is attached at the end of this webpage in LPS1a.

The report of consultation - LPS1d - is attached at the end of this webpage together with the potential approach for reviewing settlement boundaries that reflect the Alternatives for the Draft Core Strategy - LPS1c.

In addition, an indication of the development limts that could arise from this approach that reflect the Alternatives for the Draft Core Strategy is available on the council's website.

Please note that the approach and potential results - as detailed on the council’s website - do not represent its policy and are therefore not relevant for determining planning applications.
