Approaches to Community Involvement in Planning

Producing the Statement of Community Involvement for Wokingham

Under the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 opportunities exist for local communities to have a greater involvement in plan development and implementation at various stages throughout the process. The public will be able to comment on all Local Development Documents at draft stage.

All Local Planning Authorities are required to produce a Statement of Community Involvement. The Statement of Community Involvement will set out how Wokingham Borough Council will enable:
  1. people to contribute to the process of preparing local development documents in their area; and
  2. consultation on all planning applications.

A variety of methods are likely to be used by Wokingham Borough Council to enable this process to be as broad based and productive as possible. The Statement of Community Involvement should also identify the links between the local development documents and the Council's Community Strategy. The Statement of Community Involvement must be submitted to the Secretary of State for independent examination. The Inspector’s decision is binding. Until the Statement of Community Involvement is adopted minimum requirements for consultation as set out in The Town and Country Planning (Local Development) (England) Regulations 2004 must be followed.

Details of the consultation undertaken to date by the Council to comply with Regulation 25 of The Town and Country Planning (Local Development) (England) Regulations 2004 is set out below.

In the left hand menu, details of the consutlation that the Council has undertaken following this initial round are listed.

Following the consultation at various stages, the Council adopted the Statement of Community Involvement on 1 December 2006.
