Emergency Information
Emergency planning is the responsibility of our Community Resilience Team who work under the Deputy Chief Executive.
Emergency plan
We have a generic emergency plan that can be utilised to meet any situation. We have a dedicated Emergency Operations Centre that can be opened at anytime to coordinate the council emergency response.
What we do
One of our main functions, during a major emergency, will be to maintain existing services to our community and provide support to the emergency services. Each of the unitary authorities in Berkshire has an equivalent emergency planning department and all 6 cooperate in planning and responding to an emergency working to an established and agreed Memorandum of Understanding.
We are able to supply considerable assistance when dealing with particular problems such as:
- The provision of technical advice and resources
- Environmental health management
- Logistical support through local authority or contract resources
- Long-term management for the restoration of normality
It is in the later stages of a major incident - recovery period and return to normality - that our involvement may be prolonged and extensive.
