About the Building Control Service
|
|
The Building Control team works with people commissioning construction work and builders to help them comply with regulations ensuring the health and safety of people in and around buildings. These regulations also cover energy conservation and access and facilities for disabled people.
It is our job to help and protect everyone by:
- Giving assistance and advice.
- Taking swift action when regulations are breached.
- Prosecuting builders who consistently breach the building regulations.
Why use our service?
- We are independent, professionally qualified building control surveyors with over 100 years of practical experience in the building industry between us.
- We are impartial and publicly accountable: we do not have a profit motive so our judgements on health and safety issues are not blurred by commercial considerations.
- Being locally based, we have unrivalled knowledge of local conditions and extensive records.
- We have a close working relationship with other services - e.g. the Council's Planning, Disability Access and Trading Standards teams, the Fire and Rescue Service etc whose advice is readily at hand when you need it.
