Fair and Equal Access to Services Strategy 2009-2011

We has developed this Fair and Equal Access to Services Strategy to clearly state our commitment and contribution to ensuring that all residents and our staff are able to have the same opportunities and support to achieve a high and rewarding quality of life.

Our Commitment to Fair and Equal Access to Services

We will plan initiatives that contribute to everyone having the opportunity to play the role they wish in the life of the community. We realise that providing the same thing to everyone does not always ensure equal access by itself. As employers, we want our workforce and our service-provision to reflect the communities we serve.

We are committed to the following practices and principles for all of its services and activities: Promote the principles and practices of equality and justice throughout the Council to ensure that all residents are not discriminated against and are given opportunities to access services equally, and that we adhere to these principles and practices as an employer. A key element of maintaining our commitment is the regular and robust re-assessment of the impact that our services and policies are having on local residents. To do this, we will follow the recommended best practice for this type of work in relation to our statutory obligations and will conduct regular Equality Impact Assessments of its services, projects and policies.
