Major investment has been made in alternative and preventative care services for vulnerable adults in the Wokingham Borough. This follows a decision by the council in 2007 to review its eligibility criteria for those receiving social care and to stop paying directly for services for those needs which are classified as moderate or substantial.
Improvements to our service
Preventative measures involve the council working better across all its services, as well as improving engagement with external community groups and other organisations to deliver joint initiatives to prevent the needs of local residents from escalating.
About the corporate prevention strategy
With the support of Berkshire West Primary Care Trust and other community groups, a corporate prevention strategy was published in 2008. Across all Council services there are many individual initiatives which form part of the prevention agenda.
The strategy does not seek to replicate the detailed work that can be found in other strategy documents, but rather to identify from within them the key objectives for Wokingham’s prevention agenda and to promote individual and community wellbeing.
