Each section across Wokingham Borough Council is responsible for monitoring and reporting their performance on a regular basis. Performance reports are produced to bring all this information together to provide an overall update on how Wokingham Borough is performing as a whole.
We report some performance indicators that are required by Central Government but also have local indicators to monitor other issues that we consider important to the Council and our residents.
Performance Reports explained
The performance report attached at the bottom of the page is called the Key Performance Indicator report. This report is produced every month and is separated into two parts. The first page of the report shows ‘baskets’ of indicators. Each basket is a priority issue for the council and a number of indicators are assigned to each one. The performance of the indicators in the basket can then tell us if we are achieving that priority. The second page has a number of individual performance indicators.
This report is discussed in regular meetings which are attended by officers within the Council, partners and Councillors. Some of the meetings can also be attended by members of the public. Check the Guide to Committees webpage to see the meetings you can attend and see how performance reports are presented to and discussed by your Councillors.
Underperformance
We assign a traffic light status (Red, Amber or Green) to each indicator to show how we are performing against the assigned target. An explanation of how the traffic light is set is available at the top of the Key Performance Indicator report. A direction of travel arrow is also provided to show if the indicator has improved, deteriorated or had no change in performance when compared to either the previous period.
An indicator is considered to be underperforming if it has a red traffic light. When an indicator is underperforming, the lead officer who is responsible for the indicator is required to complete a performance improvement plan which identifies actions that will be taken to improve the performance of the indicator. The performance improvement plans are updated regularly and include information about when the traffic light is expected to turn green and what the risk will be to the Council if the indicator remains underperforming. Extra scrutiny is also applied to underperforming indicators during the meetings where the performance reports are discussed.
Partners Performance Reporting
Wokingham Borough Council includes performance information about our partners in our performance reports, but Thames Valley Police and the Royal Berkshire and Rescue Service also release their own performance reporting on their websites.
