New houses for older people in Woodley

The Wokingham Borough Council initiative, Alexandra Place is a development of modern, high-quality homes for older people in South Lake Crescent, Woodley. Being developed by Catalyst Communities Housing Association and managed by Central and Cecil and the onsite care and support service will be provided by Housing 21.

What is the plan?

Alexandra Place will provide 46 one-bedroom apartments and 18 two-bedroom apartments including 10 one-bedroom apartments especially for people living with dementia. These will provide real, comfortable homes for older people (the sort of place they will be able to take their pet) with additional care for those who need it.

The homes will be suitable for older people with a range of needs – from those who are active and have few or no care needs, to those requiring 24-hour care and support. The on-site care offered will be adaptable to meet the residents’ changing needs, providing the care within their own home and thus preventing the upheaval of older people having to move into residential or nursing care.

What amenities will the residents have?

The development will also have an exercise room, hair salon, restaurant and IT café, spa bath, shop, therapy suite, guest rooms and activity areas. It is hoped that local people will be able to become members to use the facilities and there will be opportunities for residents to socialise and make friends with the local community.
