Fostering - Time to care

The annual national campaign Foster Care Fortnight runs from May 16 to 29 and Wokingham Borough Council is using this to highlight its need to recruit more foster families.  It also aims to improve placement choice for its children in care.

The council is holding an informal information sessions at the Civic Offices on Friday May 20 and 27 between 12pm and 2pm. These sessions are designed to give people the opportunity to find out more whilst breaking down the preconceptions and myths around fostering. People are encouraged to attend even if at this stage they simply wish to find out more.  Interested people should call (0118) 974 6104 to register.

Judith Ramsden, head of safeguarding and social care, said: "We are committed to caring for children in foster families who are part of their local community and close to their schools and friends.   We need to increase the numbers of local carers and are seeking to recruit 15 carers who have the ability and commitment to care for the most vulnerable young people in our community at traumatic times in their lives."

The council is launching an advertising campaign toraise awareness and attract prospective carers locally including information stands at local sports centres, an 18 foot banner in Wokingham town centre and local bus advertising (look out for the bright orange banners for both these items!) throughout the two week campaign.
