For the past 10 years Wokingham Borough Council’s Bridges Resource Centre has provided high quality short break care services to enrich the lives of children with special needs and support to both children and their families.
It was awarded ‘outstanding’ by OFSTED in February 2011, an inspection grade Bridges has held consecutively for three years. Bridges has extended its facilities which include a new art room and soft play cabin.
An open day is being held on Saturday May 21 to celebrate the centre’s 10th anniversary and its new facilities. Invited guests will be able to enjoy entertainment and activities including face painting and live music.
The centre is supported by Friends of Bridges who recently obtained charitable status. Friends of Bridges aims to provide funding for facilities, equipment, activities, trips out and other opportunities which may not otherwise be possible to enrich the lives of the young people who use the centre.
David Green, Bridges Resource Centre manager, said: "Friends of Bridges hold fundraising events throughout the year and they would greatly appreciate more volunteers to help at events and with fundraising. Please get in touch if you can help. It promises to be a great day for our guests and they will get the chance to see some of our new facilities that our young people are already reaping the benefits from."
A new website will be launched shortly. Currently donations to Friends of Bridges can be made at http://www.justgiving.com/friendsofbridges.
