Congratulations to Wokingham rower Anna Watkins who won gold for Team GB at the London 2012 Olympics on Friday August 3 in the women's double scull.

Anna and partner Katie Grainger were cheered on by a home crowd on the banks of Dorney Lake, Eton.

Anna attended one of our Inspire Wokingham events in 2011. The Inspire Wokingham programme organises events for all ages to enjoy sport and activity on their doorstep.

Congratulations also to the following Olympians who live in the Borough or train in local sports clubs:

• Members of the women’s hockey team who won bronze medals - Kate Walsh, Alex Danson, Helen Richardson and Beth Storry

• Members of the men’s hockey team who finished in fourth place – Nick Catlin, Jonty Clarke, Iain Mackay and Richard Mantell

• Marcus Bateman (rowing)

• Andrew Willis (swimming)

Plans are underway to stage appropriate events to mark the success achieved by our Olympians and also any local Paralympians.
