The electoral job opportunities available include:
Canvass staff
Each Autumn, canvassers are employed to make personal visits to properties where the occupants have not responded to the annual canvass form. This is to ensure that all eligible residents are registered and that those who are no longer eligible for inclusion on the register are removed.
Election Staff
For each election, the Returning Officer appoints polling and counting staff and some staff for other duties, for example: clerks for the opening of postal votes and count security staff.
Polling station staff
The polling station staff are responsible for the conduct of the ballot in each polling station, making sure that the proper procedure for voting is followed. On election day polling station staff are required to work from 6:15am until after 10pm without leaving the polling station. Sometimes poll clerks are employed from 5pm to 10pm.
Counting staff
Counting staff are employed to count the votes on the day and at the time appointed by the Returning Officer.
