Meetings of the Overview and Scrutiny Committees and Panels are held about once every 6 weeks, and are open to the public. In addition, the agenda has Public Questions as a regular item, offering the local community the chance to put their questions directly to Councillors.
Questions can relate either to the work of the Committees / Panels or to the matters discussed at that specific meeting. A general question may be asked concerning the work of scrutiny if notice is given in writing or by electronic mail by no later than 10.00 am on the seventh working day prior to a meeting.
An urgent question or question relating to a specific item on an agenda may be submitted by no later than 10.00 am on the day before a meeting.
More information on the procedure for submitting questions can be found on our Public Questions Page
Agendas for meetings are published 5 clear working days in advance of the meeting, and can be found on our Agenda and Minutes page
Councillor Call for Action
A ‘Councillor Call for Action’ is a mechanism where local ward Members can ask for a discussion to take place at Overview and Scrutiny about a problem in their area where other methods of resolution to solve the problem have been exhausted.
If you feel there is an issue affecting your local community which fits into this definition, you may wish to consider contacting your local ward member/s to see if they would be prepared to raise the issue on your behalf.
