In Autumn 2008 we conducted a consultation to a sample of Wokingham Borough residents to ask for their views on a range of areas including their satisfaction with the local area, public services, information, decision making, getting involved and community safety. This consultation is called the Place Survey.
What is the Place Survey?
The Place Survey was a new consultation that all local authorities had to carry out in 2008. The survey has been developed to help local authorities and the government understand residents’ views and to improve outcomes for local people and places. The survey was due to be carried out again in 2010, but this is currently on hold.
How we conducted the survey
5,000 Wokingham borough residents, randomly selected, were invited to take part in the Place Survey. 2,209 residents participated in this consultation; a very good response rate of 44%.
How we will use the results
National results for the Place Survey were published by the Audit Commission and Communities and Local Government on 23 June 2009 to report how residents’ satisfaction varies between areas across England.
The results from the place survey provide information on residents views on a variety of topics, which shows where improvements are required required. The results also inform 18 National Indicators, which are measures on which Central Government measure local authority performance.
