Council services
Change of circumstances
If you are already in receipt of housing and/ or council tax benefit or second adult rebate we will have assessed your claim on the information you originally provided us with.
Why do I need to tell you my change of circumstances?
If your circumstances change, you must let us know immediately. This is because any changes may affect the amount of benefit you are entitled to. If you do not tell us straight away, you may lose money you are entitled to or you may get too much benefit, which you would have to pay back.
You should tell us about any change, even if you are not sure it will affect your benefit.
Things we need to know
Changes likely to affect your benefit include:
- Any changes to your or your partners income
- Changes in the number of people living in your home - i.e. new baby, lodger
- Changes to other benefits you receive
- You stop receiving Income Support or Job Seekers Allowance - Income Based.
- Changes in the circumstances of people living with you - i.e. children leaving school, starting work
- A change to the amount of capital or savings you have
How to contact us
Any changes should be reported in writing and proof of the change will be needed. You can report a change by contacting us on 0118 974 6636 or 6711 and we will advise you what information we need to reassess your benefit.
