How to apply for canvass and election work
See below the election job opportunities available.
Canvass Staff
Each Autumn, canvassers are employed by the Electoral Registration Officer to make personal visits to properties where the occupants have not responded to the annual canvass form.
This is to ensure that all eligible residents are registered and that those who are no longer eligible for inclusion on the register are removed.
Election Staff
For each election, the Returning Officer appoints polling and counting staff and some clerks for other duties - eg. the issue and opening of postal votes.
Polling station staff
The polling station staff are responsible for the conduct of the ballot in each polling station, making sure that the proper procedure for voting is followed. On election day polling station staff are required to work from 6:15am until after 10pm without leaving the polling station.
Counting staff
Counting staff are employed to count the votes on the day and at the time appointed by the Returning Officer.
Postal votes staff
Staff are employed to issue and open postal votes in accordance with the election timetable.
