The role of panel members
The Local Authorities (Members’ Allowances) Regulations 2003 provide for local authorities to establish and maintain an independent remuneration panel. This is responsible for the monitoring of the Members’ Allowance Scheme and to make recommendations to the Council regarding the scheme.
Members of the Independent Remuneration Panel must not be:
- An elected Member of the local authority
- A member of any committees of the local authority
- Disqualified from becoming a member of the local authority.
We're currently looking to recruit members for our Independent Remuneration Panel.
The post is on a voluntary basis and the term of the appointment is three or four years from the date of appointment. It is envisaged that the initial commitment is likely to involve four to five meetings during March to September, although this might vary depending on workload.
