Charvil

Charvil has expanded widely over the last 20 years, but it remains the smallest parish in the Borough. It extends from the Land's End area in the south to the River Thames in the north, opposite Shiplake on the Oxfordshire bank of the river. The centre is crossed by the Old Bath Road and the A4.

Charvil Country Park

Much of the land is to be incorporated in the new Charvil Country Park. It includes a natural lake and some naturalised former gravel workings. It will also provide a habitat for a variety of plant and animal life. A network of footpaths extends to the Thames, Sonning and Woodley.

The church

The population is served by a purpose-built village hall, south of the A4. St Patrick's Church - Church of England - meets in the small Church Hall, north of the A4. Both halls have rooms to hire. The village has an active social and arts programme, with a Village Society, many clubs, three choirs and an Art Group.

Shops and amenities

A village stores and post office, 2 public houses and a filling station provide commercial services. Schools, doctors' surgeries, dental surgeries and shopping facilities are in the neighbouring towns and villages of Sonning, Twyford, Wargrave and Woodley.

Public transport

Bus services between Reading and London and Reading and High Wycombe pass through the village, and Twyford Station, approximately one mile away, is on the main Reading to London Paddington line.
