Domestic violence

Are you living in fear of someone you know? Is your partner, ex-partner or a family member hurting you or making you feel afraid? You are not alone, you can get help.

Domestic violence and abuse is a crime and is unacceptable. In an emergency, or if you are in immediate danger, call Thames Valley Police on 999.

Domestic violence may include:

  • Being hit

  • Punched

  • Slapped

  • Pulling hair

  • Choking

  • Kicking

  • Rape

  • Degrading treatment

It can also include:

  • Being told that you are a bad person

  • Or that you are worthless

  • Constantly being blamed for things

  • Or criticised

Someone may be preventing you:

  • From going out

  • Having contact with your friends or family

 They may be:

  • Harassing you

  • Following you

  • Watching you

  • Sending you unwanted mail, phone calls or text messages.

If any of these things are happening to you or someone you know, help is available. The agencies listed in the leaflet and Directory of Services downloadable from this page can help you.
