Equalities Act and Assessments

The purpose of the Equalities Act 2010 is to integrate equality and good relations into the day-to-day business of public authorities. The Act highlights 7 'protected characteristics' that should be considered by the Council when we make key decisions. To meet these requirements an Equality Impact Assessments is completed for every key decision made by us.

Equality Impact Assessments

We are required to consider each of the protected characteristics for every service we provide. This is done through the completion of an Equality Impact Assessments (EqIAs).

An EqIA is an analysis tools that helps us consider the impact of our decisions with regard to the protected characteristics. This ensures that we deliver high anti-discrimination standards to our staff and customers. The quality and consistency of EqIAs is monitored by a group of experts known as the Equality Steering Group. This group meets regularly and is key to maintaining equality standards across the Council.
